Our Rototo Double Face crew socks are knitted with two threads at once — a durable outer face and a plush inner face — so the fibers touching your foot are chosen for softness, while the outside is chosen for wear. It’s the knit that made us, and it’s still knitted in Nara Prefecture, Japan, on the same low-speed circular machines we’ve used from day one.
- Double Face Crew Socks — cotton outside, merino inside, in ivory, charcoal, and seasonal shades.
- Coarse Ribbed Old School Crew Socks — heavyweight cotton rib with a vintage sports feel.
- Loose Pile Crew Socks — airy loop-pile cushioning for maximum step comfort.
- Linen Cotton Ribbed Crew Socks — cool, textured, and perfect for warmer months.
- Washi Pile & Waffle Crew Socks — Japanese paper yarn and waffle-knit for lightweight breathability.
The Indoor Uniform — Rototo Slipper & Room Socks
When the shoes come off, our slipper and room socks take over. Deep pile loops, gently gathered cuffs, and non-slip soles on select styles turn any hardwood floor into a comfortable place to land. They’re the Rototo socks our customers keep buying back for the winter — and gifting all year round.
- Pile Slipper Socks — the plushest indoor sock we knit, with a wide cushioned foot.
- Comfy Room Socks — mid-calf coverage, soft ribbed cuff, everyday warmth.
- Pile Room Socks — terry-loop interior for that fresh-from-the-shower feeling.
- Nordic Room Socks — seasonal patterns knitted on the same machines as our classics.
Four Things That Are True of Every Pair We Knit
Knitted in Nara Prefecture
Nara has been Japan’s sock-knitting capital for over a century. Every Rototo pair is knitted, linked, and finished there — never outsourced.
Low-Speed Circular Machines
Our vintage machines knit slowly, keeping the yarn relaxed and the fibers intact. The result: softer socks that hold their shape wash after wash.
Cotton, Merino, Washi & Linen
From organic cotton daily crews to washi paper-yarn pile, we choose the fiber to match the job — comfort, warmth, breathability, or all three.
Reinforced Heels & Toes
Two-layer knitting and hand-linked toes keep the pressure points strong. Rototo socks are built to be worn hard and still look good.
What Customers Say About Our Socks
“The Double Face crews are the softest socks I own. Two years of regular wear and washing and they still hold their shape — the cotton outer is barely worn.”
“I bought the pile slipper socks for winter mornings on cold floors and now I live in them. They’re plush without being bulky and the cuff doesn’t dig in.”
“The organic daily 3-pack replaced every other sock in my drawer. Simple, well-made, and the ribbed cuff actually stays up all day in sneakers or boots.”
Questions About Fit, Fabric, and Our Made-in-Japan Process
About Rototo Crew Socks
What makes Rototo Double Face crew socks different from regular crew socks?
Our Double Face knit uses two yarns at once — a durable cotton outer face and a soft merino or cotton inner face. Because the two sides can be knitted with different fibers, we get the strength of cotton on the outside and the comfort of merino against your skin, in a single seamless sock.
Are Rototo coarse ribbed old school crew socks unisex?
Yes. Our Coarse Ribbed Old School crews are designed as unisex with a stretchy ribbed leg that fits US men’s shoe sizes roughly 7–12 and women’s 8.5–13. The heavy cotton yarn softens after a couple of washes without losing its shape.
About Slipper & Room Socks
What’s the difference between Rototo slipper socks and room socks?
Slipper socks are our thickest pile-knit style, made for wearing on hard floors as an alternative to house slippers. Room socks are a little lighter and mid-calf, meant to be lounged in like your favorite sweatshirt.
Can I wear Rototo slipper socks with shoes?
They’re designed as indoor socks, so the pile is thick and the sole isn’t reinforced for outdoor wear. If you want that plush pile feel inside shoes, our Loose Pile Crew Socks or Washi Pile Crew Socks are the ones to reach for.
About Sizing, Care & Origin
Where are Rototo socks made?
Every pair is knitted, linked, and finished in Nara Prefecture, Japan — the country’s historic sock-making region. We work with small family-run knitters using low-speed circular machines to keep the yarn soft and the finish clean.
How should I wash and care for my Rototo socks?
Machine wash cold with like colors, then lay flat or tumble low. Skip the fabric softener — it coats the fibers and reduces the natural cushion. Cared for this way, our Double Face and pile styles typically last several years of regular rotation.
